This weekend Gordon Brown presented the Labour choice for the coming election. He claimed that the Labour Party is “for the many, not the few” – but I don’t think that’s true.
How can he say that with a straight face when it is the many who have suffered from their irresponsible management of the economy? It is the many who have had their taxes blown on pointless programmes and initiatives, and who will be paying back Labour’s debts for years to come.
How can Labour be the party of the many when under their watch it has been the many who have been victims of crime? When it is the many who can’t get on the housing ladder, or find a good school place for their children?
Brown asks Britain to “take a second look at Labour”, but we’ve been looking at them for thirteen years and this is what we’ve seen. It’s clear that five more years of Gordon Brown won’t change anything.
It’s the Conservatives who are now the progressive force in British politics, as I explain in this video. We’re not the party of the few – or even of the many. We are the party for everyone.

How can Brown comment od fairness when he has allowed the DSA to close driving test centres and created an unlevel playing field for learner drivers. I hope the Conservatives overturn this ridiculous situation.
Comment by Joe White on February 21, 2010 at 4:17 pm
Firstly I was discussing with some fellow English Language students and we all agree that their slogan is grammaticlly incorrect. It requires punctuation. Mind you as they have so clearly failed the education system is it a surprise? Also Labour fair? I mean, the standard of living in my household has decreased over the last few years, my dad has been made redundant 3 times in 2 years and figures say this is only going to become a more likely story in households across Britain. Is that fair?
Gordon Brown insists he and Labour are the way forward. If I was lost and required assistance i wouldn’t ask labour. Not because I dislike Labour supporters but because the UK should have learned not to trust any labour supporter with a map. They have No sense of direction! Let’s get the change we need and let us get Conservatives in power. The battle has begun and we need to get out there and act now raising support across the country.

David Cameron,
I agree with every word you say, BUT, we , the voters want to hear what Your policies are, if and when you win the election.
At the moment all we hear is rhetoric.
Lay it out for us, otherwise you will lose by default to people like BNP etc.
We are all grown ups and know it is gonna be hard, but treat us like adults and you WILL reap the benefits.
From all sides.

I agree with what is said in the video but we still do not hear what The Conservatives stand for. They should be far ahead in the polls. I have sent emails voicing my concerns but still not had a reply.
Have been a conservative voter for 50+ years but i’m having my doubts. Sharpen up David or you will lose this election, I hope i am wrong but!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

How can you say that Gordon Brown and labour are not fair when your latest proposals are far from fair? I am a Conservative supporter and would never dream of voting Labour but I a wondering who I am going to vote for.
You latest plan – “allowing” taxpayers to buy cheap shares in RBS and Lloyds is breathtakingly outrageous in its insulting derision of the taxpayers. WE ALREADY OWN THESE BANKS and now you say we are going to get the chance to buy shares in them! Do you think we are abslolutely crazy? The goverment( in our name) borrowed 70billion to bail out these banks and we are going have to pay back that loan in the form of spending cuts and tax increases, The government, (which is us the taxpayers, not an entity in itself) now owns 84% of RSB and 43% of Lloyds. Every taxpayer in the UK should be GIVEN shares in these banks, not have to pay, for the second time, for the dubious opportunity of owning them.
I would be very interested to have a reply to my email as this scheme leaves me speechless with anger.

I am really amazed by the comments, must be original Tory members, never seen or learned anything.
Do they really believe that the Tory party in a worldwide recession caused by the banks in the US would have had the UK stayed out of the recession? They would have done it better. Come on, their records of County and Council administration hangs together with everything for the well-off nothing for the rest. Have to repeat it once more, it was a Tory who said the poor did not need roads. I was Tory who declined help to severe disabled, it was Tory who promised the keep the fares down and then put them up scandalize high, it was a Tory who shouted no Congestion charge, and then keep it and promote it, It were Tory Councils all over the Country who closed Nurseries and day centers for the older people. We can go on fore ever.
Remember how the Tories last time in charge without a recession brought the UK almost to a standstill with enormous debts.
Just because a slick salesman says so it does not mean it is correct. Let the Tory party show plans and figures first before screaming we are better.
What concerns the remarks of Joe White regarding a language mistake, it shows how many miles he stands from daily life.

I saw this slogan for labour on another website…
“If It looks brown, and smells brown… what is it?”
Please pass this on to your friends at the Labour party, they appear to have run out of even the simplist of ideas!
Comment by Philip Low on February 21, 2010 at 4:46 pm
Dear Mr Cameron,
I also agree fully with all you say.
But could I ask for a set of at least 10 brilliant proposals to encourage small businesses – not just new companies – but those that have survived the recession. Although I understand the private polls may be giving a different picture and the questions you ask are spot on, why despite all the evidence of incompetence, over spending, over legislating and reducing us to a debt ridden basket case do some people still buy the Labour message (whatever that may be)? I would like to see the Conservatives occupying more coverage and was really pleased to see the announcement about the sale of the banks. Keep more of this coming.
A final view if I may – I dont think the poster campaign was a success. Online media is more potent – why not set up a web button ad campaign so businesses all over the country could advertise a click through on their sites to a page like this (with data capture) ? just a thought… I’m backing enterprise ….
very best wishes – but kick some… please!

I desperately do not want to have this government in power for another five years but if the Conservatives really want to win the coming general election they MUST attack Brown and his cronies much more than is happening at present.
I am reluctant to say that I think Labour are getting the better of (y)our party.
Come on Tories – become more forceful if you want to form the next government in a few weeks time!!!!!

Labour used to be for the working class, now they are for the unemployed who can’t be bothered working. They should be renamed the benefit party. They penalise anyone who works hard.
Comment by N.C.Watkis on February 21, 2010 at 5:03 pm
There are just about 70 days to an election. The gap between the parties is narrowing, largely because many are not sure albout the Conservatives program on the economy. People will take what apprear to be an easy solution and be tempted by Labour’s easy option. In reality, Labours policies past and present will bancrupt the country worse than in Greece.
The Conservative have a hard but necessary job. They must remind the public of Labours record and show convincingly that whlle the conservative road will not be easy, it is the only one which provides hope for long term financial secruity especially jobs.. Labour must be pilloried at every opportunity on their failures and bad judgement, and their general unfiitness to govern.
In business, management that get into a mess are not usually retained in order to get out of it. So it should be with Governments.

I agree totally. I tried several years (4 years) ago to get a visa for my fiance to come to this country legally from the Philippines. She was rejected despite being very well qualified and Labour and their daft philosophy ruined my life. I will never vote Labour again.
She is about to try again. If she fails to get the Visa in Manila. I will seriously consider
emigrating to a society where people can live happy and productive lives without Labour’s control freakery, without their incessant regulation and daft (illogical) philosophy. I hope and pray that David Cameron wins the Election. The country cannot afford to suffer another 5 years of Labour.

Your statement that you are there for everyone poses a question in my mind, does that mean you intend to give parity to the English that the other nations of Britain enjoy by self governence, or do you intend to insist on the regionalisation of England even though the one area that was asked gave a resounding no,

HANG ON
We all now own 84% of RBS paid for out of our taxes! Why should we “buy” our own shares at a “discount price”. This smacks of a Gormless Brown stealth tax!
Where are some SOLID policies?
Heseltine predicts a hung Government, why are you still wishy washy?
How are you going to reduce the frightening Brown deficit! Why are you letting him get away with blaming it on “global” forces instead of Brown stupidity to buy votes!
How are you going to encourage small firms, the only source of new employment! Getting rid of all the red tape/bureaucracy could work miracles for a start!
Get your fingers out!

I am not the first to put forward a request for a much tougher approach to negating Labour tactics, slogans and vacuous statements.
We need to take every opportunity to remind ‘the many’ (whomever they are) that Labour has:
- reduced living standards
- decimated the UK pension industry (from budget number one)
– increased taxation for employees and employers
- reduced the required examination standards in schools to derisory levels
- failed to improve GP/patient interface (despite throwing millions away on new and rediculous GP contracts)
- failed to make any real progress in the delivery of medical care in the NHS
- …need I go on?
All this progressively over the last 13 years.
We should be ensuring that Labour candidates and supporters on the doorstep are embarrassed to ask the electorate ‘to give Labour a second look’. What a weak, vacuous and incredulous slogan!
There’s a lot of work to be done in the run up to the election. Let’s be more incisive regarding our opponents and show clarity and purpose when putting our ideas forward.
Mrs Thatcher did it against all the odds. Mr Major actually did it too!
Change for change’s sake is not enough.
Here’s to a successfull campaign behind Mr Cameron.

Education has forced thousands to go to universities or glorified polytechnics getting into debt for a wortless degree that will not get them a decent job,the health service has been bled dry by beaurocractic idiots, the police force have no respect, everyday young black youths killed on the streets and more recently mothers killing their children,no morals left,no respect left ,has this country become the new Sodom and gommorah.

Brown told us for many years there won’ be BOOM AND BUST under his watch. I think we are almost bust now. Please Cameron and the team you all need to attack Labour more. They had relaxed all the banking rules, immigration rules, house prices increased exponently, public pay and service expenses hit the roof and the Labour are getting away with it. Where is Ken Clarke and William Hague they have gone all quiet and Labour is lucky as the opposition seem to be on the defence instead of attacking them. Is there anyone in the Conservative party who can be more forceful?
Comment by Keith on February 21, 2010 at 5:56 pm
Fairness from Labour? How can a Scots PM allow Scottish students to attend Scottish Universities FOC and English students have to saddle themselves with debt? How is that fair? And what about the meritocracy that discourages, how can that be fair?
What about means tested benefits? How can that be fair if you work hard and scrimp and save you get NO help from the governement but if you do bugger all you can simply sponge off the state? We need to scarp any means tested benefits and have a clear benefit in working rather than simply taking handouts.

How can the Labour party accept the speech that Brown opened the Election period with.Once again a rehash of words that were spoken 4-5 years ago.British work for British workers? The way he has bastardise this nation its a wonder there is any to employ and are there still any British Companies that have not been sold to foreign Country’s.13 years in Power,13 dead years in developing Great Britain and a wall street type crash brought on by a unelected P Minister who couldn’t even run a home without been up to the armpits in debt.Should I and my wife had run our home on his methods we would be out on the street.Think and look back to when they took power and you will see how from the very begging he stated to rob peter to pay Paul and empty the pockets of the British People.Pensions,Gold, hidden taxes,Stealth taxes,Quangos which pay themselves massive salary’s plus claims to attend meetings. Why when he reset V A T back to 17.5% did he not take of the 2% he put on Petrol. We now pay19.5% V A T to fill up.
I could write about the damaged him and Blair did for the next six months. He is a pathological
liar and he has no Christian principles at all.Should he be put back in power he will carry on like he has done for the last 13 years. And gone in six months booted out by his own party. If he goes the next P M will be Mandleson,he is already writing the scripts.

Conservatives are not doing enough to publiciise Labour’s appalling record- is there anything they’ve improved in 13 years? The massive increase in NHS spending has resulted in a negligible performance increase and a culture of bureaucracy and box-ticking – see Saturday’s Daily Mail for a terrifying account of what goes on in hospital ‘management’. Labour have subverted the constitution stuffing the Lords with second-rate Labour synpathisers, similarly with quangos who cost a fortune and for whom they can disclaim responsibility, politicising the civl service by sacking anyone who disagreed with their agenda, control freakery as in the ludicrous Independent Safeguarding Authority – a sledgehammer to crack a nut – left-wing teaacher and social workers’ agendas with which they are inculcated in training, Brown’s deceitful budgets where the bad news always came the day after, taxing the poor and making them reclaim it with tax credits they did n’t understand and could n’t process, tax complexity instead of simplicity. He is largely personally responsible for our banks’ collapse by urging a light touch on their regulators because he was spending their massive tax income as fast or faster than it came in. Then there’s the lying about immigration – an undisclosed agenda to change the country and – incidentally – get a few million immigrant votes as most are Labour voters. No wonder Brown is telling his election candidates not to talk about Labour’s record, and no wonder his only riposte is lying and class warfare of the most sordid variety. The man is obsessive, obsesive, obsessive – and Conservatives need to call him to account.

David
I think one only has to look at the history of our Country and the way the political parties act.
Labour have always driven the country into debt and the Conservatives have had to pick up the challenge to clear the debt. Then sadly once again the poor misguided get upset because of the cuts that have been made and once the Country is back on the even road they vote Labour again.
I come from a working class background but I have never trusted Labour. All’s I can say is be as strong as Maggie.
Comment by Denis Knowles on February 21, 2010 at 6:11 pm
Grant Shepps raised the question of commonhold tenure in parliament. To inform readers 47% of new homes built in 2006/7 were leasehold, where the landlord retains ownership of the property and charges ongoing ground rent that produces nothing for the purchaser. Over 50% of the governments targeted homes will be leasehold.
In 1995, when in opposition, Labour promised to get rid of this law that dates back to 1290 (Quia Emptores) and applies to England and Wales and nowhere else in the world. Scottish purchasers of flats buy on commonhold, another name for freehold, which means that the PM and Chancellor of the Exchequer’s constituents are able to purchase retirement and non retirement flats freehold or commonhold.
As Grant Shapps, Conservative MP, has already raised this question does it mean that your party will follow through?
Labour has done little or nothing despite their promise. For your party to follow through by first, insisting that property developers and landlords offer commonhold on newly built properties, which would be a start.

I am unable to understand what you represent, your policies appear to have little substance ( they change daily, if challanged)
I never have or would vote Labour I have supported the Conservative cause in the past, but on the present performance I cannot offer my support.
The Country I was once proud off no longer exists,it has been sold to the highest bidder, and the representative’s I have voted for have managed to feather their nest’s at my expense.
Nothing I have heard or read leads me to believe that you will or are able to change the status quo.

A lot of the above comments ring true. What are you actually going to do? How does Brown get away with his “reputation” of being a great chancellor? Why can you not expose his record for being te total disaster that it was? What we need is strong, convincing policies and we are not getting them. Want to gain 4-5% in the polls? Promise, or rather more than promise because politicians’ promises are not treated very highly that you will hold a referendum on membership of the EU if your STATED plans to repatriate powers are thwarted by Brussels.
Comment by Salvador Psaila on February 21, 2010 at 6:26 pm
Great letter responding to Brown’s latest tactic. However, David, I don’t perceive either on TV or the press anything like this clarity of message from the Conservatives. Perception is reality. I badly need you to win. We can’t go on this way. Brown devalues everything he touches including politics by making meaningless promises. They have tested state intervention to destruction and still promise MORE! I don’t think Osborne’s bank shares proposal is really what will help you win the marginals. Every time you come out with small ideas like this it just causes people to think that is all you have. Keep to your key message. I have always voted conservative but know many labour voting friends who still struggle with your messages.

You are certainly right on all things ‘ Brownsome’ and the tired Marxist policies he hopes we won’t notice. However I feel that I MUST point out that your image and that of George Osborne needs a bit more bite , more gravitas , more passion and you need to be seen as strong and dare I say a bit ‘ nastier’ when dealing with these skilled ‘duckers and weavers ‘ We are all hoping for a Tory government , please don’t let us down !!

When Labour came into power Brown sold off our gold at a knock down price. He even announced to the world in advance that he was going to do so. No wonder the price fell like a stone. Call that prudence.
Why don’t the Tories land any punches on this feeble worn out government?
Comment by Gordon Haines on February 21, 2010 at 6:38 pm
My wife and I are members of the Conservative Party in Devizes and can I please ask that you stop alienating the core vote in order to pander to minorities that will not ever vote Tory. Why not be more Thatcherite if only to tell the public that you have a belief in Great Britain and WILL withdraw from the E.U. Convention on Human Rights, WILL kill the Quangos, WILL tell Europe that they need us as much as we need them and stop the decimation of our remaining industry by fighting EU directives.

How can Gordon Brown claim such a thing if anything the labour Party is “for the few,not the many”.
He certainly looks after his own, that i have no doubt about.
Comment by David Fellowes on February 21, 2010 at 6:47 pm
It’s true. Labour are only interested in minority groups. They no longer represent the ordinary working man. I do, however, think that the Conservative Party will need to work hard to convince the British working class that it is not merely the party of big business and other sectional interests, but a party of the whole nation. These days, there are too many alternatives available at election tiime for either of the main parties to take votes for granted.

I agree Gordon has done nothing for fairness and has governed more like a dictator that is why we do not want to go down this road again
Mr Cameron I am a Conservative voter but feel strongly that it is up to the constituents to choose their candidates and not the Conservative Leader or Central Office It is wrong to plant people into an area that they do not know because they are a friend of someone, female, black, white or what ever race I voted for you and I did not want my MP to make this decision for me
WE WANT A CONSERVATIVE VICTORY so if you mess it up because you are putting pressure on who should stand for Parliament then we will not forgive you
Comment by Inogen MacKenzie on February 21, 2010 at 6:58 pm
The question that I sent to the Conservative party the other day was about fairness – I have had no reply.
If the Conservatives come to power, will they repeal the anti-hunting law?
Say no and be fair to animals and I will certainly vote for you, for the first time ever.
Comment by CHRIS (BOLTON) on February 21, 2010 at 7:17 pm
Well said David. You speak for the moral majority of this country. Where is the “fairness” in allowing (encouraging) a welfare dependancy culture whilst increasing taxes on the hard working in our society? We’re fed up with the politics of envy. This country was built on the foundations of industry and self worth and pride in one’s achievements. The tired mantra of Gordon Brown and new Labour is that we have merely been the victims of a world wide recession. Why then are we now lumped in the same basket as the likes of Greece? The sums don’t add up and have not for years now. Remember, Brown was the feted chancellor who sold the countries gold (not just the family silver note) at a fraction of current worth. So much for prudence!! Five more years of the same? Forget comparisons with Greece and start thinking in peer terms of Zimbabwe.
Comment by Gerard Noel on February 21, 2010 at 7:24 pm
Couldn’t “Dave” occasionally look as if he is statesman material and wear a tie. I appreciate that going tieless is gimmick to counteract his genteel background and education, but most of us would prefer a bit of gravitas.
Comment by Mark Rudman on February 21, 2010 at 7:27 pm
I have to take issue with Robert Newman’s comment “… we , the voters want to hear what your policies are.. “. I’m sure I’m not alone in wanting to actually hear LESS policy. I am tired of incessant Labour proclamations which even disturb my peace on a Sunday. The current regime is giving us an increasingly totalitarian state, and the recently reported behaviour of its leader is even more reminiscent! If the electorate wants to vote for a previously unelected dictator, then it gets the government it deserves. I sincerely hope the Conservative Party will challenge this and perhaps do more to educate the voter.
Comment by Bob Sykes on February 21, 2010 at 7:32 pm
I share the frustration of many on here about David Cameron’s failure to articulate a coherent vision and alternative programme for Government.
As someone who has supported the Tories for 20 years, I despair of the fact that the party is seemingly sleepwalking towards the General Election and through an absence of positive, coherent alternative vision, is letting Brown back in by the back door. We have had to endure months of Tory confusion, flip-flopping, and a failure to set out a coherent message to the electorate. It is hard not to come to the conclusion that David really hasn’t got a clue what he wants to do.
What do today’s Tories stand for? Do they still support the things that first attracted me 20 years ago? Do they really want a smaller state, and if so, what on earth are they planning to do to achieve it?
DAVID – PLEASE SET OUT NOW WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO, AND HOW THIS WILL CHANGE BRITAIN AFTER 13 YEARS OF LABOUR FAILURE.
Comment by David Read on February 21, 2010 at 7:42 pm
David is right about Brown, but there is so much more to say about his past mistakes, his current poor management of everything, his hypocrisy and his bullying. And it needs to be said a great deal more forcefully and eloquently than the Conservatives are currently doing. Why are we not further ahead in the polls? Because we have dithered and contradicted ourselves. David must be seen to have positive answers to the crisis as well as offer negative criticism of Brown.
Comment by Malcolm Gaskell on February 21, 2010 at 8:05 pm
David ,
Please state your policies ,there are people out there that have not lived through a Conservative Government to judge you .
I have always supported the Conservative party ,but after the last 12 years we need some truth ,we know Brown is a liar and after this Government people are cautious .
We all know its going to be hard ,buit get elected and get on with it ,failure is not an option.

He stole our money -our pensions – our gold and now he and his cronies(Mandelson) etc think they can steal our integrity.
The public cannot be fooled by this corrupt government any more.

I hope that David will tackle ageism in the workplace. It’s clear to me that anybody that is over 50 stands no chance of getting a permanent job and even if one gets a job its on a temporary basis. Even Royal Mail operates such a policy and that is controlled by UK Gov

Under the guise of equality for all, Labour have imposed an anti-faith philosophy and sought to undermine all the values that have always maintained a stable society. I have not yet found anything in the Conservative manifesto that promises to uphold the right to freely teach and practise ones faith: that will seriously uphold the importance of stable marriage; that will promote the importance of children being brought up and cared for by a loving father and mother; that will protect children in our schools from being manipulated and being indoctrinated by promoters of secular and aetheistic values;

After 12 abysmal years, ‘fair’ is their best offer. Please score more goals in this 2nd 1/2 on bureaucratic strangulation of NHS, schools, police, …. and total total failure on energy … Stop chasing their hares and get the whole team on the pitch.

A belated comment. Please spell out exactly your proposals regarding the considerable retired portion of our population. Those of us fortunate to have money purchase private pensions have seen these hit hard by labours money grabbing policies. We still pay tax both on our private pension payments and on the pitiful interest received on any savings we may have. The total income we receive is not index linked, and is disproportionately hit by both tax and commodity price increases. Our eventual reward for being hammered in a most unequal and unfair manner for every penny is to potentially loose our homes (should we have been foolish enough to have bought one in the fist place) should we fall ill and be the sole survivor. Please give our voting block a good and solid reason why any of us should vote for your party.

I suggest that all Conservatives read the excellent recent article by Jeff Randle in the Daily Telegraph (18th Feb, online) concerning the lessons of history from Churchill and Thatcher about winning elections. It’s great and inspiring stuff and spot on for the Conservative Party today.

Brown says that you David would change the face of Britain, how can an idiot as Mr Brown make such a statement, knowing what he and his Government has done to us over the past thirteen years, did Blair, Brown and Straw give the people of this once great country any say when they secretly opened the borders to all, to turn this country into a multicultural country, why was this done secretly, answer, because they knew the people wouldn’t go along with it, how could just three servants of the people be allowed to get away with it, the should face the courts, Brown now says he would be fair to all, but at the same time, is considering a death tax of £20k, it seems to me that the lazy non working long term benefit claimers, criminals, illegal immigrants, and many asylum seekers which have been housed and paid benefits won’t fit into this category, so who will pay for these peoples care, yes the people who have worked all their lives and paid their taxes, my wife and I have saved to help our family, but Browns Idea, it will not go to my family, but to either the lazy, or someone who has come into the country with nothing and paid benefits, which in some cases is more than the worker get, Brown has thrown Billions around the world, to show a, what a good boy am I status, the taxpayer owns 84% of the banks, Brown didn’t have a brain to make a law banning bonuses until the debt was paid in full including a high interest rate, if the banks now are able to pay billions out as bonuses, this money could have reduced his borrowing for January, or he could have saved Corus and sixteen hundred jobs, yes David, I look forward to you changing this country, hopefully to something near to what it used to be, we all know what difficulties lies ahead, but I’m sure you will get us there, one question I put to you, the people vote a party in, why can’t they vote them out at any time, with a vote of no confidence, but then again bungler Brown was never voted in was he. I wish you well David.

The local Conservatives in Hammersmith & Fulham, have been instrumental in bringing changes, I have previously been a staunch Labour supporter, even being a member of a trade union, I feel completely let down by a failed policy of crime prevention locally here in my Borough where I live, the national government under David Blunkett when he was Home Secretary set up the Safer Neighbourhood initiative, it was not enough to do this on it’s own, our Conservative local administration has pumped £Ms into propping this up, whilst at the same time decreasing our Council Tax every year since 2006, when they came into power, I wrote the below for our “Crime Summit 2010″ set up by our Cabinet Member and Leader in 2007, it speaks volumes about what can be achieved by a Conservative local administration, I for one am looking seriously at what way to vote at the next election, going on what I have experienced locally, also speaks volumes of what we can expect nationally should a Conservative Government be elected.
The “Crime Summit” has been instrumental in dealing with inherent problems associated with our neighbourhoods and community in LBHF. Since 2006 we have seen a major drop in certain criminal activity, our streets are safer, our local businesses and public places are more vibrant, in my part of the borough W12, we have seen major reductions in street crime, especially street drinkers, and beggars, the borough’s investment in our SNTs is a glowing success that has shown interest from outside of LBHF, we have had other LAs visit, one Council Leader came to see how we tackled crime associated with small businesses, and how a partnership approach with local government and the community builds on this success story.
I am very pleased to be able to take part again in our Crime Summit 2010, and look forward to reporting more successes again next year, as last year and previous years since 2006, we should be congratulating all our 16 wards for their collective input into “Community Safety”, especially the successful NHW movement, now showing a phenomenal success in membership, I see all the signs that have gone up around our borough, growing from strength to strength, we should be congratulating our Cabinet Member for Crime and Leader of The Council, for leading the way in this benchmark LA we are privileged to live in – London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, also our Borough Commander Kevin Hurley has shown great leadership – his Teams of officers and staff, working with us as a community to deter crime and associated ASB, especially in areas that had previously blighted the lives of residents, some of them very vulnerable. Well done everyone.
I know we have a long way to go in the North of our Borough to bring it up to a standard of acceptance, I refer to our street market in shepherds bush, there are ongoing issues in a small area of concern, I am hoping this can now have a holistic approach in dealing with concerns of residents and traders, the successes of our SNT in Shepherds Bush needs to backed up with a more methodical approach particularly around drug dealers, and the reoccurrence of a particular problem once dealt with by the LA and MPS. I know we can achieve this; it is a matter of getting the right “Problem Solving “ approach by all concerned.

Dear David
We have to get rid of this brutish, so- called ‘prudent’ man. In all his years as Chancellor he failed to put any halt on massive expansionary policies of government. Not unexpectedly, this flowed through to the market economy with similarly disastrous consequences. He is not to be trusted financially. How can we put this across to the electorate in a way which they will accept? Unpalatable policies to bring the economy into equilibrium will not buy votes. Being critical of the current government will not buy votes. The electorate’s naivety knows no bounds unless they are truly convinced. It has to be conviction that quite simply what has been before has been incompetent and that there has to be a better way – a cultural change to relearn the meaning of what it is to be civilised human beings. We need to learn the meaning of value, not of wealth but of people, health, the natural world and what we have not what we want. We, the enlightened electorate, have to be the evangelists! Go forth – preach.

David,
Give me some assurance that people who leave children alone whilst going for a beer will be treated as child neglectors, especially when one of the children then goes missing only for the parents to act in a joking manner just days later.
We need to protect our children not defend parents because they are doctors or upper class.
Fairs fair, a chav on a council estate would be charged with child neglect and have their remaining kids taken from them.
For the first time ever I will not be voting as no party seems to respect law and order and instead seems willing to protect children and prosecute child neglectors.
As for clarence mitchel being an MP well that just clarifies how trustworthy our system of democracy is.

labour have ruined this country, evrytime then are elected they start off with money in the pot but give them a few years and we are heavily in debt which is the case now. We have to have some hope of law and order, less money and housing for single mothers to discourage them from getting pregnant, lessons on morality rather than sex education, get the workshy off their backsides and away from the plasma tv the tax payer has provided and give them something to do to earn their keep. Encourage marriage and encourage couples to stay together for the sake of their children. So much to do to put the GREAT back in GREAT BRITAIN.

Mr Cameron you must become more aggressive towards Brown and his cronies. You must also do something about the pensions i.e. civil servants police force etc. this is costing pour country billions and it has to stop we have large money problems now if you do not stop this pension problem we will be in mega trouble. You must start to help small businesses they are the people who employ lots and lots of local people. I live in Dorset and the local business rates are about to rocket and many small shops are going to close these are the area’s you must look at, yet the local authority are about to have huge pay rises you must stop this now. You must start looking after the hard working people in this country many self employed who work long hours keeping other people employed. Stop all the waste of money in local authority and governement. We may start to solve our problem and also all the foreign work force.

Dear David,
Brown seems to need to change his slogan to contain the words ‘free for all’ rather than ‘fair for all’ because he wants to give everything away without working at retaining wealth creation. H seems to be taking his idealistic Socialism to the extreme, not realising that it’sd not fair for lazy people to be paid or receive as much as those who put in the hard work that is needed to get Britain back on its feet. It’s possible that Gordon’s choice of slogan could well be his downfall because it is indefensible by him or his government.
Yours Sincerely,

Any party that comes down hard on criminals has my vote. If someone burgles a house then 5 years inside minimum seems appropriate. Rape / Murder / Drink Drive Murder should be 25 to life and spend all 25 years in jail.
Lets end this stupid 200 crimes before you even see a court room and another 200 before you spend a week in jail and get sent home with a tag.
Tough on crime works for everyone who is willing to contribute positively to society.

First question:
It was Gord Elpus and his pop-eyed side kick Ed Ballsup who robbed folks of their pensions and created the booming pensions crisis. They brought in measures/enacted legilslation which allowed them to plunder pensions reserves. (I thought Gord was agin boom and bust?)
Are you going to reverse the measures those two robbers introduced to repair the damage that has been done. Will you restore the status quo and allow pension reserves to build up again?
Yes or No, Dave?

David,
I have just read the EXPRESS.co.uk, our so-called New Labour Government are now calling the population of the UK RACISTS,simple because the reaction of the people against them secretly opening the borders, It states that Officials made it clear that public opinion was strongly against relaxing border controls, But Ministers were urged to ignore “Voters Racists Views” and press ahead with a secret policy to encourage migrants to flood into Britain, Whitehall experts even proposed a major propaganda campaign to soften up voters in preparation for the mass influx of new comers, I sure that many people of this country that reads this will consider these people who organised this, are people who have no consideration of the many, many hundreds of thousands who laid their lives down for this country twice in the last hundred years, these so-called politicians should be sent straight out to Afghanistan’s front line to do what these people had to do in two world wars, for this Government to consider we are all racists, shows they have no respect for our Royalty, or anyone else within this once great country, they feel no shame because that are so sad and sick, they should be facing the courts on treason, they were voted in by the people of this country, the people pays their salaries, therefore they should be doing what the voters want, not themselves, but do they care about the Great Britain or the people, DO THEY HELL

I listened to GB’s (how ironic to share the initials of the country he’s brought to it’s knees) ‘take a second look…’ so I sort of took it literally and did take a seconds look and I like my version better as there’s nothing I really wanted to see once, let alone twice about the record of the Labour Party!
I’ve got a lovely example of our ‘caring’ Labour types, without reading, hearing or seeing anything the media can produce. When they lost control of our local council did they act like responsible, caring adults? No way, sulks aplenty, lots of bluster and they wouldn’t work with the Liberal Democrats who beat them. Is that the way to look after your constituents? NO. Is that what will happen in Westminster? Probably, but who would notice the difference when all we see is pocket lining at our expense. Taxes have crippled all of us but can we see local MP’s to discuss the state of the nation? No, S. Woodward, a defector who I wouldn’t trust as far as I could throw him (and I’d love to!) is one person I’ve never seen in the area. There’s another local chap, who I think is actually the MP for our half of the town, who does appear now and then, oh, and aren’t we ‘blessed’ with an MEP too? Wonder who that is, ‘cos I’ve never heard of him/her! Roll on sensible, adult, Conservative Government. I’ll still be stuck with a Labour type, local attitudes die hard, but I know where my vote always goes. What happened to the party my Dad used to vote for (he didn’t last time and in some ways I’m glad to see he’s no longer around to have his ideals shattered any further as he was a workmate of Eric Heffer and shared his proper, people focused idea of the Labour Party) One previous Government of theirs, when I was a 9year old, taxed a trust fund that had been set up for me (which had a grand total of £1000 in) at 90+%! The few pounds I eventually got were a waste of time, especially as the banks had to have their cut too! Is it any wonder we’re all on the poverty line when so few years ago we were comfortably off, able to buy a weeks groceries and have enough change to visit the chippie?

I have completely given up on what Gordon Brown says, every word that comes out of his mouth is a total lie. How he can spout about giving him another 5 years is beyond me and anyone with half a brain would realise what this man has done to our once great country. Its almost on its knees and will take decades to put right. I sincerely believe he knows he has not a cat in hells chance of getting another 5 years and is on a one man misson to wreck everything in order to make it hard for the next government (hopefully yours) and believes that people will think its the Conservatives who have made a mess and he will be voted back in once more. I really hope that you will soon start banging the drum about all of his shortcomings and get your message across on how you wish to change this country, because there is a slim chance if you do not do this, people may still be stupid enough to vote for him and his totally corrupt government!! It is really important that we do not let this man and his cronies once again are allowed another chance – please do all you can to esure that doesnt happen. I am not a rascist by ay stretch of the imagination and while i do see the need for some immigration, this government who scandalously brought in an ‘open door’ policy has filled the country to overflowing with every tom, dick and harry which in my opinion just cannot go on. He obviously never takes a walk in any of our towns and cities and sees how they are overflowing during the day by immigrants hanging around, therefore not adding to our economy by obtaining worthwhile employment. This is one of the main gripes most of the electorate have and whoever gives a pledge that immigration will be controlled, and controlled in a fair and serious way will get thousands of votes. Ask the man in the street what he thinks about just that one grievance and you will get the same answer – ‘enough is enough’. Please put the GREAT into GREAT BRITAIN!

David as a ps. I know you are a family man and a fine upstanding man at that, but your message about people are better when married etc i think is not going to win you too many votes. I see a lot of people who live together as man and wife who are happy and have well adjusted children etc, but banging on about how they should marry is not going to be popular so please tone it down somewhat. We have had enough of government telling us what we should do and should not do in our personal lives and most of us can think for ourselves on that score. There are lots of things which will make you unpopular i have noted over the last few months, but can you be a bit more secretive until the election is over and you have won it? After all thats what Brown has done, he waited until he was in the job of PM (unelected at that) before he started issuing orders about how the electorate should be living etc. Just a thought! I wish you well and hope to see you forming a government in May/June.
Comment by Bill on February 24, 2010 at 11:21 am
David,
Brown said ‘no time for a novice’, if that statement is made again you say ‘ and its certainly no time for an incompetent’.
Why is a far left government run by the now ‘Uncle Gordon’ Brown which has brought the country to its knees both financially and morally, and offering more of the same as a solution to the problems narrowing the gap in the polls? The reason is simple you are not getting the message accross aggressively enough. Little Lord Hartlepool and the Top Shelf Hack are out there distorting the truth, painting a rosey picture and making that walking disaster area ‘Uncle Gordon’ and his mediocre crew, who nearly to a man have had their snouts in the trough, look electable, and the electorate seem to be swallowing it. Thatcher, Tebbit and company would have torn this paragon of imcompetence to pieces, they would have had them for breakfast. This country needs you, Five more years of ‘Uncle Gordon’ and his ‘more of the same’ economic policies will leave this country staring into the abyss of a Third World Economy. You need to stand up show you have the steel, grit and determination to take this country by the scruff of the neck shake the Public Sector out of its Financial Self Denial and get us back on track. Say it as it is, don’t sugar coat it. Tell the electorate you can’t spend more than you earn anything else is the economics of the mad house. Expose ‘Uncle Gordon’, Mandelson, Campbell and the rest of the mediocre crew for what they really are, and do it forcefully.

papers have informed us that Labour poliicy for the general ,election is “don’t mention the past”. May I suggest the Conservatives do refresh the voters memories by providing short quotes as to what Labouir inherited when they came to,power thirteen years ago.
Immigration, National Health, Eductaion, standard of living have only been possible by borrowing large sums of money to please the voters. ( Children playing at finance). WE need transparency in all things polictical with much more opportinuty for voters dialogue with increasing use of blue blog for both central and local political issues. The savings on shoe leather and time alone would provide a ‘working smart’ base for any party to know what the public is feelong instead of second guessing or relying on ‘spin’ to provide the policies for the future.

David,
I watched you today on PMQ as i always do and once again you got at dear old Gordon. But please can you get at him on some other policies like the economy, say what you plan to do, law and order and crime, education, having more police on the streets, jobs for british, cuts in immigration etc, Its no use keeping on about his personality – or lack of one. There is probably less than two months before an election and people need to know more about your policies, we already know about GB and his dire policies. Most people i speak to are fed up to the teeth of this man and his entire bully boys and will probably vote for someone else. I am not sure they will use their vote for Conservatives, maybe the green party, even the BNP and lots of people do not intend to vote at all because of the sleaze regarding MP’s expenses. That is going to take quite some time to die down. I would so love you to take office and start to sort this country out, but it appears people are getting mixed messages as to what you really intend to do, especially as you chop and change sometimes – and you do it has to be said! Your lead over GB has slipped in recent times which i find worrying, so please get your messages across loud and clear and concentrate on what the country needs. We all know what GB is really like and do not like what we see or hear about him. Thank you.
Comment by Margo on February 25, 2010 at 4:59 pm
I totally agree with above’s sentiments.
You have to tell us clearly what you intend to do.
Please, please remind the people out there the dire things labour has done to this country.
I look at my daughters and their families and hate to think what another five years of labour will do to them.
Most of us believe your party is being too polite. So often on television you MP’s do not come across forcibly enough

Freedom of speech?
And, as a natural consequence, freedom to post the spoken word as a written question/statement.
Does the Conservative Party support that basic tenet?

Now Brown has been ‘outed’ as a bully. I bet he goes into rages and takes it out on his staff at no 10. The mark of a man is how he treats people he has power over or people less fortunate than himself. Same goes for women. Apparently Simon Cowell treats everyone the same, from domestic staff to business parners. THat is how a man should be.
Brown has also ‘apologised’ for sending kids to Australia in the 50s or something, something he was not responsible for. When is this pandering to minorities and malcontents going to end? When is he going to apologise for the things he is REALLY RESPONSBILE FOR.
1. Ballsing up the economy
2. Unfettered and uncontrolled mass immigration, even Slough is full up now!
3. Bullying his staff including Alistair Darling who told the truth about the economy.
4. Turning the NHS into a top heavy management ‘business,’ whereby nurses and docs are struggling to stick to quotas and tick the right boxes for management reports. Forget about caring for patients as long as I have filled out the right bloody forms for managers!!
5. Being illiterate and not getting any help for it.
6. Being possibly the worst PM in my lifetime and beyond.
As a mental health nurse who works long hours, I would like to help campaign for the Tories but I just have no time and am usually knackered after work. I look after immigrants, UK people, young and old. I do wonder sometimes at the foreigners on the wards who do not pay for care. They have come here, paid no taxes, barely speak English and yet are getting good quality care in the NHS. In my heart I will treat all patients fairly but in my head says, why are all these people here? why have they come here and do they even have the right to be here? All people need help but we cannot help everyone, we cannot help the world.
Best wishes, keep up the sterling efforts,
Mary

What are the key issues for most of us ordinary citizens?
I suspect having your kids get a good education and not dumbed down propoganda, having a job where you can get to keep most of your earnings and have a decent pension at the end of it,, help for the income generating parts of the economy and restraint on wasteful public spending, removal of all pervading Political correctness where a guy taking photos of his child whilst shopping is deemed peodophilia, high levels of immigration impacting adversly on jobs and services.
The tories haven’t convinced me on any of these.Regretably Gordon and his arch propogandists are close to another term.

Some interesting comments posted by Ms. Young.
I hope she will allow me to examine some of them so that Dave may better judge just what his Blog contributors are capable of as thinking individuals; when they are allowed free reign to comment that is.
There have been a few notable high office holders who have descended into black moods and explosive rages so Gord Elpus being exposed as a bit of a tyrant should not really comes as a big surprise. I bet Dave has his moments, eh DC?
One should perhaps view the apology issued by the tartan twerp as being on behalf of British Governments, irrespective of their hue. Long overdue, it doesn’t solve anything, but ask those who were sent away how they feel about this apologist stuff. I can almost understand the anguish they took with them and endured for many years. Almost but not quite. Because it didn’t happen to me; but I can recall how upset I became sometimes as a child. I bet most can. Also, the early years may have been hard for Dave too. I believe he was sent away as a boarder. That must’ve been tough for an impressionable young child.
Your closing comments may be seized upon by contributors and reportists to the LabourList.org (the other Blog) who will immediately accuse this arena of being a hotbed of racist cant and the home of the anti-immigration lobby; but your comments are probably more groundswell than that loathsome lot would want to admit. Maybe this lot too.
1. Ballsing up the economy.
A lot of truth in the above remark, Ed Ballsup had a big hand in raiding the pension funds to finance ludicrous pet projects
2. Unfettered and uncontrolled mass immigration, even Slough is full up now!
One might postulate that the loathsome lot came up with a beezer idea for beating the Eton Elite (as they see it): import your voter base from places where things are dire and enslave them to nanny-state-ism by chucking lots of benefits at them. Nowt wrong in that I suppose not when you consider that the Westminster Wild Bunch chuck lots of benefits at themselves
3. Bullying his staff including Alistair Darling who told the truth about the economy.
That’s a bit of a leap isn’t it? Since when has ANY Chancellor or Exchequer told the truth about the British Economy.
4. Turning the NHS into a top heavy management ‘business,’ whereby nurses and docs are struggling to stick to quotas and tick the right boxes for management reports. Forget about caring for patients as long as I have filled out the right bloody forms for managers!!
You seem to be topically accurate with this particular statement. As far as one can tell without knowing ALL of the facts.
5. Being illiterate and not getting any help for it.
A tad harsh don’t you think. A poor speller and not the most adept wordsmith, but illiterate? However, it is his judgment that needs to be examined for not conferring with his army of script-ists.
6. Being possibly the worst PM in my lifetime and beyond.
You obviously didn’t live through any part of the Wilson Government. That was fun!
Thank you for allowing me a smidgen of literary license Ms. Young; I hope you are not outraged by the comments.
There you go Dave. Y’see, we’re all objective and nice folk so why don’t you stop pratting around with Blog contributions and allow free and frank debates upon the points that are made and questions that are raised that yer webmeister finds so troubling?
Speak up, Dave. You’re always being urged to do just that on this Blog, so come on man, give voice to the people.
Be bold.
Be progressive.
It’s a radical notion!

labour are still bullying the conservatives into a defensive stance everytime they(tories) make a policy announcement, and the public are picking up on it and sensing weakness. the conservatives need to fight and attack labour on boom and bust, destroyed pensions and crime. make labour defend themselves, put them on the backfoot and ask labour what there policies are. does anyone know?.
make them explain how they are going to halve the deficit without pain and how they are going to pay for services.
Tories get on the front foot and fight or in 5years from now there will be nothing left

It is a fairly easy task to explain what Labour Policies (and Pledges) are; just review the last thirteen years and you’ll be able to pick out all the best points.
The highlights must surely include:
When Tony Met Bill (How to lie brazenly and get away with it.),
Leading From The Left (How to make an impact with the electorate.)
Shock And War (How to topple a dictator and silence your fiercest critic.)
Parliamentary Expenses (How to line a pocket, build a property portfolio from scratch and mend your broken finances courtesy of the Public Purse: with acknowledgements to Cross Party Contributors.)
Inefficiency And Waste (How to sell a country down the river.)
Punishment Politics (How to subdue the b***ards who vote Blue and Yellow)
A lot of this should be familiar to you all but feel free to jump in and add yer two-pennyworth; Dave needs the inspiration if not impetus.
