In the coming months, thousands of young students will pack their bags and prepare to begin a new life at University.
This new experience will provide them with multiple opportunities to make new friends, reach new levels of academic enlightenment, explore the local nightlife but also get involved in politics.
With a general election just around the corner – whether Gordon Brown likes it or not – Conservatives cannot afford to underestimate the important of winning the support of the undergraduate community. These young students are some of the most active, hardworking campaigners in the country and their commitment cannot be taken for granted.
Conservative Future has a long and proud reputation for running strong activist branches on campuses across the UK. These branches provide a breeding ground for some of our best activists and upcoming stars of the future. Conservative Future activists always offer fellow students an exiting, fun environment, which involves plenty of social events but also great opportunities to get heavily involved with the wider party.
As a party, we need to recognise just how critical winning the youth vote is to us succeeding in the election battle. But to achieve this, we need make sure that our Freshers’ events are professional, organised and dynamic to offer new undergraduates and excellent opportunity to join us and help deliver real change for the future.
That’s why Student Life exists – to show young people just what the Conservative Party has to offer young people in education and the opportunities that it can provide. Our goals are to develop new branches, help raise activist profiles across campus and encourage membership. We’ve always organised outstanding recruitment drives at Freshers’ events, but this year it needs to be better than ever.
I will be visiting numerous Universities across the UK over the next few months to help arrange events, drive membership and coordinate recruitment drives. This is our opportunity to work together to achieve a record recruitment drive in the lead up to the next general election. So lets start preparing for an historic Freshers’ welcoming, and prove that the Conservative Party can offer undergraduates the opportunity to help bring real change to our country.
