Diary of a conference virgin – Day 4

Posted by Shazia Awan, September 30th, 2008 .

The mood at conference has changed. Today has without a doubt been one of the most interesting days here for me – managed to make it into David’s speech at 11am this morning – a packed out conference hall.

Reaction to David’s speech

Posted by Charles Barwell, September 30th, 2008 .

Today a statesmen addressed his Party’s conference. With the global economy in turmoil and savers and homeowners across the world frightened for their family’s security, David Cameron spoke to us and to the whole country to reassure us all and enourage calmness.

A real buzz in Birmingham

Posted by Theresa May, September 29th, 2008 .

I think I’ve attended over twenty party conferences and I’m pretty sure that this year’s is one of the best so far. It is fantastic to be in Birmingham and there is a real buzz here. All the delegates that I’ve caught up with so far seem to be impressed with the new venue. All the staff are unfailingly polite, friendly and helpful and even the weather has been shining on us!

This morning I took part in a very interesting session on enterprise and business, and one of the people on the panel was Tim Campbell, the winner of the first ever Apprentice.

Time flies when youre having fun

Another great day at Conference – I got to ask a question in the first session, met Tim Campbell from the Apprentice and spoke to the blonde bombshell himself – Boris Johnson.

Running a conference session on the economy on a day when a Bank has been nationalised made this morning perhaps the most important session of our week in Birmingham.

No longer a conference virgin

Posted by Shazia Awan, September 28th, 2008 .

The night before conference ended up going out to explore Birmingham- there’s such a buzz around the city-promised myself an early night…got to bed about 3am I think with so many Conservatives in one place sleeping is clearly over rated!!

A feast of football

Posted by Jo Hillier, September 28th, 2008 .

Today saw not one but two big football events at Conference: the annual Conservatives versus Press football match, and the FA Football tournament arranged as part of the ‘We love WHF’ Social Action project.

A Brummie’s View

Posted by Charles Barwell, September 28th, 2008 .

Something happened this morning that I don’t think has ever happened before. Party conferences are usually about talk. But today something special happened: the Bishop of Birmingham held the conference in total silence.
